I first came across celery juice when my friend Remy and I were picking up some juice freezes at Pressed Juicery. Remy decided to order a shot of celery juice just to try and honestly at the time I thought it was disgusting. Well, after our trip to Pressed Juicery I started to notice celery juice popping up everywhere, especially on Instagram, so I decided I had to give it a second chance. It’s funny how our taste buds adapt over time because now I find myself drinking celery juice every damn day!
Welp, this is not my second but third time to get sick this winter and when we feel sick there is nothing we want more than to feel better. So, I figured, what better time than now to share some all-natural remedies that I have been using to fight the cold and flu? It’s been almost two years since I stopped taking medications including DayQuil, Tylenol, etc. that are known for being harmful to your liver. Although it may be timelier than just popping a pill, I truly believe in the power of plants and using holistic practices as a way heal your body.
Let’s talk about one of the most common reasons people visit the doctor’s office: lower back pain. Did you know that about 80% of adults have struggled with lower back pain at some point in their life whether it be from an injury or just simply sitting too long? Crazy, I know. A few months ago, while I was taking a yoga class, I received a hands-on assist from another teacher that did not settle well with my body. I knew immediately that something went wrong as pain radiated in my low back. Eventually the pain began to spread into my hips and let me tell ya Shakira wasn’t kidding when she said, “HIPS DON’T LIE!”
“Is cupping therapy actually effective or is it just another one of those “woo woo” wellness trends?” This is a question that I get asked quite often so I figured I would take this opportunity to share my experience with cupping and everything you need to know about cupping therapy before you go to your first session! Like many others, the first time I heard about cupping was when Michael Phelps exposed those crazy, perfectly circular, dark marks on his back during the 2016 Olympics. My initial thought was, “WTF, why would someone put themselves through something that appears to be brutally painful?!”
For me, inflammation is the root of all evil causing tensions headaches and my shoulders to scrunch up by my ears. Inflammation occurs in the body as a defense mechanism that recognizes damaged cells, irritants, and pathogens and acts to try and heal the problematic areas. Unfortunately, the inflammation I experience is chronic and caused by severe cervical disc herniations and injuries. There are many factors that cause my body to have major inflammation flare ups including physical activity, lack of sleep, stress, and so forth.
Most of us depend on our deodorant like it’s water, especially those in the fitness industry, but do you ever stop and think about what is actually in that little stick that you swipe on your armpits everyday? If this hasn’t crossed your mind I’ll save you the time and go ahead and suggest that if you're not already using an all-natural deodorant that you toss the little stick in the trash.
