Do you follow the moon cycles? I remember as a kid, my dad and I would take his telescope out into the yard and gaze up at the planets and stars. I was fascinated. Sadly, as I got older and times changed the tradition stopped and my interest in our solar system slowly began to fade. That is until I found my passion as a well-preneur and I began to incorporate astrology and moon rituals into my lifestyle.
I will admit, at first, I was very intimidated by it all. There is a lot of information out there which can become overwhelming, not to mention it can get pretty dang deep. But there is something to say about this information because moon rituals can be very powerful and with the last new moon of the year coming up on December 7th now is the perfect time to share my favorite new moon rituals.
The moon represents your emotions and within a birth chart, your moon sign reveals the ways that you’re impacted by experiences. Your moon sign, which is determined by the position of the moon at the time of your birth, reveals your innate reaction to life’s experiences. It’s basically your internal monologue and key understanding to your emotional profile (so be nice to yourself 😉). So why is the new moon significant? The new moon occurs when the sun and the moon align at the same degree of the zodiac – the yang (masculine) energy of the sun aligns with the yin (feminine) essence of the moon. During this time, it is important to be still and focus on what seeds you would like to plant and the abundance you want to manifest. I know, we are starting to go way in-depth here and I am no expert just here to share with you how to create a new moon ritual. But if you’re looking to learn more here are a few resources I would recommend:
Also, I recommend having your chart read! It’s really interesting and something that you can have as a reference when you want to learn more or better understand your horoscope!
As with any ritual, it doesn’t have to be anything too elaborate. Keep your rituals simple, stress-free, and fun! This is supposed to be a time for self-love and indulgence. New moon rituals are my favorite way to dive deep into some self-care and to clear out anything I am holding onto that no longer serves me to make space for the new.
How to Create A New Moon Ritual
TAKE TIME TO DISCONNECT:
Whether you disconnect for 20 minutes or two, it’s important to your phone away during this time. If this is hard for you, choose a time that you know you can step away from life’s responsibilities even if you must mark it in your calendar. Meditation can be helpful when it comes to quieting your mind, disconnecting, and tapping into your intuition. I recommend trying a breathing meditation!
CLEAR THE SPACE:
Clearing the energy of your sacred space helps to set the tone for your new moon rituals. I like to use sage or palo santo to clear my space (plus they smell heavenly!). I also like to use crystals to help channel the lunar energy into your space, a moon stone is a perfect addition or whatever crystal is calling to you at this time! As you clear your space, you can say a simple prayer:
“Dear Universe, may I have your support to clear this space so that my truest intentions can flow clearly from my heart.”
WRITE OUT YOUR INTENTIONS:
It’s really quite simple, ask yourself “what abundance would I like bring into my life?” and then follow that up with “what is holding me back from manifesting this abundance?” Often, we find ourselves caught up in asking for what we think we should want or what others want for us or we think that we aren’t capable of going after those dreams. Let it go because you’re more than capable and you will achieve your dreams if you are open to the universe. Be sure to write your intentions in a positive self-loving manner and only write down what is resonating with your heart.
Meditating during the new moon is great because it allows you to feel yourself letting go of conscious thought, of worry, tension, and doubt. It helps you to clear your head-space and any attachments you have to what was in order to make space for what is to become. During the new moon, I practice breath and mantra meditations. Here are a few mantras I like to use:
“I embrace the new beginnings opening to me this new moon.”
“I let go of what is no longer serving me and open to what is.”
TAKE A SACRED BATH:
A hot bath with essential oils, epson salts, and/or flowers is my favorite way to celebrate the new moon. I personally feel as if it washes away all that I am trying to release. Not to mention its super relaxing! I like to spice things up a bit and surround myself with crystals, candles, and incense while I am in the bath. Sometimes I even turn on some chill tunes!
New moon rituals can be very grounded and can open you up to new opportunities and abundance. Setting rituals might seem like super time consuming in the beginning but once you get into it you will enjoy setting aside time each month to connect to yourself, your heart and your deepest desires. Also, it’s always fun to grab a group of like-minded humans to create a new moon ritual with or check out events and studios in your city to join a new moon ritual circle!
