It’s *almost* that time of year to fire up the grill and throw on your favorite summer foods! Honestly, in my opinion, there is nothing better than a yummy grilled meal. Since I’ve eliminated meat from my diet, I’ve had to find replacements for burgers, hot dogs, etc. that aren’t just veggies on skewers. I have to credit my boyfriend, Ollie, for this Easy Grillable Black Bean Burger recipe. It’s absolutely delicious and (according to him ;-) ) super easy to make! Although, now that I have learned how to properly use the grill I will be making these myself.
As many of you know, I am from Alabama where the fried chicken is at it’s finest and everything is cooked in butter. While it’s all delicious, it doesn’t accommodate to my dietary habits and it sure as heck isn’t the healthiest of foods. Anyways I am back in the south visiting my mom for her birthday and when I saw pancakes pop up on my Instagram feed this morning, I got a major craving, but I ran into a little dilemma when creating a recipe. My mom’s cabinet and fridge were lacking some essential ingredients to make vegan pancakes so I had to get crafty with my recipe…
It’s no secret I am a huge advocate of CBD Oil and use the plant-medicine on a daily basis for several purposes. So, it’s no surprise that I also give my dog, Lucy, CBD oil! To give you a little background on Lucy, she is an 11-year-old Pomeranian who I am lucky to say is in fantastic health. It’s actually quite impressive that for a pup her age she can do repetitive laps around Central Park or play fetch for hours on end. But she does struggle with some joint inflammation as well as quite a bit of anxiety. To elaborate, she still is a little skeptical of her food bowl that she has eaten out of for 5 years.
I first came across celery juice when my friend Remy and I were picking up some juice freezes at Pressed Juicery. Remy decided to order a shot of celery juice just to try and honestly at the time I thought it was disgusting. Well, after our trip to Pressed Juicery I started to notice celery juice popping up everywhere, especially on Instagram, so I decided I had to give it a second chance. It’s funny how our taste buds adapt over time because now I find myself drinking celery juice every damn day!
The sound of rolling cool jade stones over your skin sounds enticing, huh? Well, I am here to give you the low down on this ancient art of skincare. It may seem like a taboo wellness thing, but I’ve been incorporating jade rolling into my skincare routine over the past couple of months and let me tell ya it’s just as incredible as it sounds! So what exactly is a jade roller….?
When it comes to breakfast pastries muffins are definitely my go-to, especially blueberry muffins. I remember as a kid we would bake muffins and have them throughout the week for breakfast before school (or just devour them all on the weekends). The other day when I came across some reusable mini muffin cups at the hardware store, I just had to get them and do some Sunday afternoon baking. Also, these muffin cups are another perfect addition my *in transition* sustainable kitchenware!
Holy 2019, where did the time go? One thing I know for sure is that 2018 fell nothing short of a year full of self-care. I mean just check out the hashtag on Instagram and there are over 10 million post of people sharing their workout routines, delicious looking smoothies and bowls, and cabinets full of clean beauty products. But none of this is going anywhere in 2019 and it’s only going to get better.
Are you a pack your own snack kind of person or someone who likes to pick something up on the go? I personally like to pack my own snacks, especially when traveling, to ensure that it’s a healthy snack made with clean ingredients. In preparation for my trip, I decided to make some “Adaptogenic Cashew Cacao Bliss Balls,” and lemme tell ya they are the bomb diggidy! Traveling tends to stress me out so I added some WYLDE ONE Yoga In A Cup Adaptogens to the recipe to keep me zen AF as I head south. But who am I kidding? I’ll be making them again when I return to NYC for that same zen affect.
Welp, this is not my second but third time to get sick this winter and when we feel sick there is nothing we want more than to feel better. So, I figured, what better time than now to share some all-natural remedies that I have been using to fight the cold and flu? It’s been almost two years since I stopped taking medications including DayQuil, Tylenol, etc. that are known for being harmful to your liver. Although it may be timelier than just popping a pill, I truly believe in the power of plants and using holistic practices as a way heal your body.
Tis’ the season! I don’t know about you, but I cannot believe the holidays are already here! Where did 2018 go? For some of us this past year has been a journey full of laughter, success, tears, exhaustion, failure, and celebration of all life’s ups and downs. Which means we could all use a little self-care this holiday season (or a lot 😉). Whether you are shopping for the fitness fanatic, zen yogi, eco-conscious badass, clean beauty queen, or those just diving into the realms of the wellness world, this wellness holiday gift guide has everyone on your list covered.
Do you follow the moon cycles? I remember as a kid, my dad and I would take his telescope out into the yard and gaze up at the planets and stars. I was fascinated. Sadly, as I got older and times changed the tradition stopped and my interest in our solar system slowly began to fade. That is until I found my passion as a well-preneur and I began to incorporate astrology and moon rituals into my lifestyle.
If you know me at all then you know I am the farthest thing from chef. Cooking causes me anxiety, it’s rough! But I do appreciate simple recipes and at times I enjoy being in the kitchen. Speaking of simple, this “chili” weather is making me crave a warm bowl of vegan chili. This is one of my favorite recipes to make because it’s simple, quick, and healthy! The best part – you can stick it in a crock-pot, turn it on high, and you’re good to go!
Never in a million years did I think I would be sitting here writing a blog post about self-employment. I guess that’s why they use the phrase “never say never” because hell I am my own freakin’ boss now! I should start by saying this journey to self-employment has not been easy and I am still learning through trial and error how to be my own boss every single day. Lucky for me, part of this self-employment gig for me includes being able to write this blog and share my experiences with you. And since I like to be real and raw with you, I want to be totally honest about the struggles, fails, and successes of being my own boss.
It may be hard to believe, but the holidays are right around the corner! For some of us this means traveling to be with family in friends and for others it means hunkering down at home to celebrate, but wherever you are on the map it’s important to stay mindful and healthy during the holidays. That’s why I am here to share a few tips for staying healthy during the holidays that I’ve found helpful in hopes that they serve you too.
We have all been victims to insomnia a time or two and I am going to say it is probably safe to assume you’re here reading this post because you’re included in the 50-70 million American adults that suffer from sleep issues. That’s about 1/3 of the American population that is struggling with sleep issues meaning you’re not alone! There are several reasons we could be losing sleep, but one of the biggest causes of insomnia is stress. I’ll be the first to admit that when I find myself tossing and turning all night its usually because I have something that is causing me anxiety.
Let’s talk about one of the most common reasons people visit the doctor’s office: lower back pain. Did you know that about 80% of adults have struggled with lower back pain at some point in their life whether it be from an injury or just simply sitting too long? Crazy, I know. A few months ago, while I was taking a yoga class, I received a hands-on assist from another teacher that did not settle well with my body. I knew immediately that something went wrong as pain radiated in my low back. Eventually the pain began to spread into my hips and let me tell ya Shakira wasn’t kidding when she said, “HIPS DON’T LIE!”
“Is cupping therapy actually effective or is it just another one of those “woo woo” wellness trends?” This is a question that I get asked quite often so I figured I would take this opportunity to share my experience with cupping and everything you need to know about cupping therapy before you go to your first session! Like many others, the first time I heard about cupping was when Michael Phelps exposed those crazy, perfectly circular, dark marks on his back during the 2016 Olympics. My initial thought was, “WTF, why would someone put themselves through something that appears to be brutally painful?!”
Raise your hand if you love snacks! I am all about snacking, but I always try to make sure I snack mindfully. Simple ingredients and all-natural energy support make these nutrient packed Matcha Energy Bliss Balls a must have for your busy day or when you just need an afternoon pick me up without the caffeine jitters.
How many times have you said "I really need to go to the gym" or " I should probably start working out again."? Probably more than you can count. I was once one of those who was very guilty of procrastinating when it came to working out and sometimes still am. I would have all intentions of making it to the gym or a workout class, but then would end up skipping it and guilt myself for not just going to the class. I've kind of learned that yoga pants are much more efficient during a workout than worn on the couch.
For me, inflammation is the root of all evil causing tensions headaches and my shoulders to scrunch up by my ears. Inflammation occurs in the body as a defense mechanism that recognizes damaged cells, irritants, and pathogens and acts to try and heal the problematic areas. Unfortunately, the inflammation I experience is chronic and caused by severe cervical disc herniations and injuries. There are many factors that cause my body to have major inflammation flare ups including physical activity, lack of sleep, stress, and so forth.
